Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story and the Disney film that was produced by Howard Ashman & John Musker and written & directed by John Musker & Ron Clements. Originally Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions.

Production Dates

First Youth Rehearsal: On or about February 16th, 2027

First Full Company Rehearsal: On or about February 20th, 2027

Opens: March 13th, 2027
Closing: March 27th, 2027

Commitment Details

STUDIO REHEARSALS

November 10th - December 11th (Rehearsals are at the UofA)

Mon-Fri 5-10:30pm (One day off per week, day off is currently TBD)

Saturday 10am-6pm

Sunday 11am-7pm

 

TECH REHEARSALS / PERFOMANCES

Begin on Saturday December 12th at the Berger

Sat/Sun 12/12 & 12/13 (11am-10:30pm with a 90 min dinner break)

Continue tech week Tues 12/15-12/18 from 5pm-11pm

Character Breakdown

SEEKING

The listed ages are suggested casting ranges and may be adjusted based on the needs of the production. Performers may be considered for roles outside the listed range when appropriate.

Ariel

Suggested Casting Age: 18–30 | Soprano

King Triton’s youngest daughter. Ariel is curious, compassionate, determined, and fascinated by the human world. She longs to experience life beyond the sea and is willing to risk everything to pursue that dream. Seeking a dynamic actor with an exceptionally strong singing voice and excellent storytelling ability.

Prince Eric

Suggested Casting Age: 20–35 | Tenor

An adventurous and independent prince who is more interested in exploring the world than accepting the responsibilities expected of him. Eric is sincere, courageous, and immediately captivated by Ariel. Requires a strong singing voice and confident leading presence.

Grimsby

Suggested Casting Age: 40–70 | Baritone or Strong Character Singer

Prince Eric’s loyal, proper, and occasionally exasperated guardian. Grimsby is determined to help Eric fulfill his royal responsibilities and find a suitable princess. Seeking a strong character actor with excellent comedic timing.

Flounder

Suggested Casting Age: 9–15 | Treble or Unchanged Youth Voice

Ariel’s enthusiastic, loyal, and sometimes nervous best friend. Flounder follows Ariel on her adventures despite being easily frightened. Seeking a confident youth performer who sings well and has strong comedic instincts.

Scuttle

Suggested Casting Age: 18+ | Tenor or Character Voice

An energetic, eccentric seagull who considers himself an authority on human objects despite usually being completely incorrect. Seeking a strong singer, dancer, and comedic character actor with bold physicality.

King Triton

Suggested Casting Age: 35–65 | Baritone

The commanding ruler of the sea and devoted father of Ariel and her sisters. Triton is powerful, protective, and deeply concerned about the dangers of the human world. Requires authority, emotional depth, and a strong singing voice.

Sebastian

Suggested Casting Age: 18+ | Tenor or High Baritone

King Triton’s meticulous, anxious, and highly musical advisor. Sebastian is assigned to watch over Ariel but quickly becomes caught up in her adventures. Seeking a charismatic performer with exceptional vocal ability, comic timing, movement skills, and commanding stage presence.

The Mersisters

Suggested Casting Age: 16–35 | Various Vocal Ranges

Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella, and Allana are Ariel’s older sisters and the daughters of King Triton. Each sister should have a distinct personality and strong individual presence. Seeking skilled singers and movers with excellent harmony and ensemble abilities.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Suggested Casting Age: 14+ | Tenor, Alto, or Flexible Vocal Ranges

Ursula’s sinister, sneaky, and highly theatrical eel accomplices. They work together to manipulate Ariel and carry out Ursula’s plans. Seeking two performers with strong voices, excellent movement skills, and the ability to function as a tightly connected pair. Youth or adult performers may be considered.

Ursula

Suggested Casting Age: 25–65 | Mezzo-Soprano or Alto

A powerful, manipulative, and devious sea witch who seeks revenge against her brother, King Triton. Ursula is theatrical, intelligent, intimidating, and wickedly funny. Requires an exceptionally strong singer and character actor with commanding stage presence.

Chef Louis

Suggested Casting Age: 20+ | Tenor or Character Voice

The enthusiastic and wildly over-the-top palace chef. Chef Louis takes enormous delight in preparing seafood and performs the energetic comedic number “Les Poissons.” Seeking a fearless comedic performer who sings and moves well.

Adult and Youth Ensemble

Suggested Casting Age: 9+

A versatile ensemble of singers, dancers, and actors portraying sailors, sea creatures, seagulls, maids, chefs, princesses, townspeople, and other characters throughout Ariel’s story.

Seeking performers with strong musicality, movement ability, character work, and ensemble instincts. Certain featured ensemble tracks may require advanced dance, vocal, or specialty skills.

Bring

  • A hard copy of your headshot and resume, stapled together

  • Please arrive early to sign in before your scheduled audition time

Prepare

Auditions will begin with a dance/movement call, followed by singing in the order you sign in.

Please:

  • Wear clothing and shoes appropriate for dance/movement

  • Prepare music and sides for the character you most connect with or wish to be considered for

An accompanist will be provided.
You may be asked to perform one song and/or one side.

Please arrive before your audition slot to sign in and please bring a hard copy of your picture and resume stapled together.

Seeking

GOMEZ ADDAMS
Male-identifying, tenor/baritone. Suave, passionate patriarch of the Addams family. Proud of his eccentric family and deeply devoted to Morticia. Struggles to keep Wednesday’s secret from his wife.

 

MORTICIA ADDAMS

Female-identifying, alto/mezzo. Elegant, commanding matriarch with a sharp wit. Intuitive and strong. Suspects Gomez is hiding something and works to uncover the truth.

 

MAL BEINEKE
Male-identifying, high baritone/tenor. Lucas’s conservative father. A rigid businessman concerned with reputation and appearances.

 

ALICE BEINEKE
Female-identifying, soprano. Charming but tightly wound housewife. Often speaks in rhyme and embraces trends and self-help fads. A comedic role that transforms during the dinner party.

UNCLE FESTER

Non-binary or male-identifying, tenor/baritone. Vaudeville-style narrator with boundless energy and childlike wonder.

ADDAMS ANCESTORS(Ensemble)
All genders, all vocal ranges. Ghostly relatives of the Addams family who narrate and comment on the story.
