(a space for new works)
In our mission to provide unique opportunities to local artists, Saguaro City Music Theatre is proud to collaborate and provide support to develop new musical theatre works from a magnificent idea, and body of work on a page, to a realized work on stage.
IN INCUBATION UNDER THE SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE OF
CAMERON HOOD
Hood has been fusing together his interests in songwriting, narrative storytelling, and theatre for the creation of a musical called Voyagers: A Space Rock Opera. Highly researched, Voyagers is a currently-in-development musical that utilizes rock music storytelling and immersive multimedia visuals to invite audiences to experience the aches, dreams, and fears of two ambitious musicians who make a record and set out on tour. Their story is told symbolically through the actual mind-bending history, science, and sounds of NASA’s two Voyager space probes—a pair of spacecraft launched in 1977 on a Grand Tour of the outer planets, outfitted with a Golden Record of life on Earth to carry beyond the solar system.
VOYAGERS will be Cameron’s first musical.
Cameron Hood is a singer/songwriter, storyteller, and graphic designer from Tucson, AZ for whom inner transformation is the most important precursor to societal change. Interested in both big-picture, systemic thinking as well as the detailed nuances and poetry of wordplay, Cameron is animated by a vision for using songs and stories to help people.
IN 1977, NASA LAUNCHED A PAIR OF UNMANNED VOYAGER SPACECRAFT ON A SCIENTIFIC GRAND TOUR OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM. EACH CRAFT WAS OUTFITTED WITH A GOLDEN RECORD OF MUSIC, GREETINGS, AND IMAGES OF LIFE ON EARTH TO CARRY BEYOND
THE PLANETS INTO INTERSTELLAR SPACE.
THIS IS THE STORY OF TWO VOYAGERS WHO MADE A RECORD AND TOOK IT ON TOUR.
A starry-eyed, ambitious songwriter longs to ascend the anonymous rat race of life on Earth by writing a hit record and touring among the stars. After meeting a lovely, level-headed companion who reveals that the planets have aligned for them to make an album and undertake a grand tour, the pair launch into dizzying new heights. But when his ever-expanding ambition threatens both the tour and their relationship, he must reckon with his true place in the cosmos by searching out the most distant, unknown object in the universe—his own soul.
THE NIGHT SKY
Maybe I could be the first
To write it all inside a verse
To rise and leave
This heavy Earth behind
And fly
Oh, to the night sky Oh, to the night sky
IN A MOVE THAT CONFOUNDS THE PUBLIC,
VOYAGER 2 IS LAUNCHED TWO WEEKS BEFORE VOYAGER 1.
THE BALLAD OF ONE AND TWO
Words she said to me
Always stay with me
The words she said to me
Words she said to me
Always stay with me
Words she said to me
One, two, one, two . . .

What does it take
To change your eyes?
Can you do it alone
And is it worth the price?
Well, listen how I lost the light
And tried to find my soul
Ahhh, ahhh, ahhh
Ahhh, ahhh, ahhh
One, two, one, two . . .
One, two, one, two . . .
One, two, one, two . . .
One, two, one, two . . .
ECLIPTIC BLUES
Can you tell me what
What we’re looking for?
And I think that I was born
For something more than ordinary
I’ve been writing something
I’ve been hiding something
Quite exciting
Something grand

I think that everyone I know
Just goes in circles bending low

Now turn your head
To the side
And trace between
The brightest lights
That’s Venus there
And Jupiter
And it makes a line
Around the Earth
It’s all a plane
A ring that’s spun
A ball and chain
Around the Sun
Tell me, don’t you wanna go
Make something gold?
THE SAME THREE STREETS
Oh, hallelujah
There is so much to see
In the waves and all the wonder
Of a humble heartbeat
And more unknown than known
Dreaming deep within me
But, yeah, I drive the same three streets
I’ve seen gravity pull everybody Back to this town
Why drive the same three streets Every week?
But what if it’s a gift
The lift that pushes us out there?
Beyond the belt
Among the cloud
Where it’s so wide open So wide open
So wide open . . .
For you and me
CAPE CANAVERAL DAY
The crowd came down to Kennedy
To see it all up close
Turn on, turn on!
Counting down I saw the smoke
And felt the life below
Turn on, turn on!
Let’s get born
And get unfolded
