Jacob’s eleventh and favorite son. Joseph is confident, charming, and optimistic, with a natural ability to lead. Requires a vocally strong performer with excellent stage presence.

Soprano

The audience’s guide through the story. The Narrator tells Joseph’s journey through both spoken text and song while directing the audience’s attention to the action. Must command the stage and possess exceptional vocal ability, energy, charisma, and storytelling skills.

 

Pharaoh

Baritone

The ruler of Egypt, regarded as a god on Earth. Pharaoh turns to Joseph for help understanding a troubling dream. Portrayed as a world-famous rock-and-roll star and requires tremendous energy, confidence, humor, and stage presence.

 

Potiphar

Male-presenting | Baritone

A wealthy, self-indulgent, and sophisticated Egyptian capitalist who places Joseph in charge of his household. Seeking a strong character actor with a commanding presence and powerful speaking voice.

 

Mrs. Potiphar

Female-presenting | Alto

Confident, indulgent, and determined in the pursuit of what she wants—which, at this moment, happens to be Joseph. Requires strong comedic instincts, confidence, and physical storytelling. May also be cast as a member of the greater ensemble.

 

Jacob

Male-presenting | Baritone

The aging father of Joseph and his eleven brothers. Seeking a strong character actor who can sing and move well.

 

Butler

Tenor or Mezzo-Soprano

Pharaoh’s trusted servant. While imprisoned, the Butler asks Joseph to interpret a dream and receives a positive prediction. Requires strong comedic and character instincts.

 

Baker

Tenor or Mezzo-Soprano

The head of Pharaoh’s kitchen. While imprisoned, the Baker asks Joseph to interpret a dream and receives a less-than-positive prediction. Requires strong comedic and character instincts.

 

Joseph’s Brothers

Male-presenting | Various Vocal Ranges

Joseph’s eleven brothers, who become jealous of his status as their father’s favorite son. Seeking highly skilled singers and dancers with strong comedic ability, individuality, and ensemble instincts. The Brothers will also appear as members of the general ensemble in portions of the production.

 

Wives

Female-presenting | Various Ages and Vocal Ranges

The wives of Joseph’s eleven brothers. Seeking highly skilled singers and dancers with strong comedic and ensemble instincts. The Wives will also appear as members of the general ensemble in portions of the production.

 

Adult Ensemble

Actors, singers, and dancers who will portray Ishmaelites, Egyptians, Canaanites, and other characters throughout Joseph’s story. Seeking dynamic performers with strong vocal, dance, acting, and storytelling abilities.

 

Youth Ensemble

The Youth Ensemble will serve as an essential part of the production’s storytelling and musical world. Seeking enthusiastic young performers who are comfortable singing, moving, acting, and working collaboratively as part of an ensemble.
